Inspection Reports

West Tytherley CE Primary School was inspected by OFSTED on 13-14th December 2022 and we are delighted that the school ‘continues to be a good school’ and that the ‘arrangements for safeguarding are effective’.

The two-day, graded inspection concluded that West Tytherley was a ‘good’ school, receiving ‘good’ in each of the five distinct categories of the assessment, covering the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

The report makes clear how safety is always the school’s number one priority, stating: 

‘Leaders have established a strong culture of keeping pupils safe’.

‘Pupils enjoy school because relationships are strong within the school community. This makes them feel happy and safe. All parents who responded to the parent survey said that their child felt safe in the school.’

The report also notes the high aspirations for all children, both academically and in terms of personal development:

 Leaders have ensured that the curriculum is ambitious for all pupils.’

 ‘Leaders, support staff and teachers have high aspirations for all pupils. They expect pupils to be enthusiastic about their learning, concentrate hard and not to give up.’

 ‘Pupils said that staff always listen to them and help them to resolve any issues speedily.

‘Leaders make the development of pupils’ personal skills a very important part of school life. Pupils are keen to be elected to the school council or become a house captain. They benefit from the opportunity to develop their confidence and independence on trips. Parents are equally positive about this aspect of the school’s work.’

We were delighted to see that the inspectors noted our commitment to and love of reading: ‘Leaders ensure that all pupils becoming fluent and accurate readers is one of the school’s top priorities’.

Parents made very positive responses on ‘Parent View’ and several parents provided comments to the inspectors in person. The report noted how parents had commented positively about the extra-curricular provision the school was making, through clubs, and how use was being made of the rich geography and history of the local area and beyond to enhance pupils’ educational experience.

The inspection team spent time meeting with senior leaders, subject leaders (who have responsibility for specific subject areas), visited classrooms, met and listened to children and held discussions with Governors.

We are fortunate to have an effective Governing Body who, in the words of the inspectors, ‘know the school well’ and ‘check that leaders and staff are providing a good education for pupils. Governors challenge school leaders effectively about the most important aspects of the school’s work’.

Areas identified for improvement

In line with our continued efforts to strive for excellence, Ofsted identified what we can do to improve. In particular, we need to ensure that learning is identified and sequenced precisely, in every subject, so that our children know more and remember more over time.

The leadership team at the school look forward to further enhancing the experience of every child, in a spirit of continuous improvement.

Church Inspection

As a Church of England school, our school is also inspected by the Diocese, with our last inspection carried out in May 2024. We are extremely proud that the inspection found that the school is living up to its vision and values as Foundation school. Among the school’s strengths, the inspectors found that:

‘The Christian vision and the values of compassion, courage and creativity are a natural part of the language of the school. They are lived out daily and enable staff and pupils to flourish.

‘The school is rooted in the community. It is welcoming, inclusive and everyone is treated well. Pupils are compassionate in their interactions with each other, mirroring the example set by the staff.’
