Music

At WTPS we believe that music is a creative and social art to be enjoyed. Children have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of musical experiences through listening, singing, interpreting music through dance and by playing and composing music using tuned and un-tuned percussion. Singing plays a big part in our daily worship and the children also have the opportunity to join our choir as an extra-curricular club. The majority of our music curriculum is delivered by Hampshire Music Service through their ‘Listen 2 Me’ programme. This introduces children to a range of instruments such as the African drums, ukulele and cello and gives a framework for children to develop their musical skills and knowledge as they progress through the school. The children have lots of opportunities to perform their singing or instrument playing in class, whole school assemblies and in church. We also have an annual Christmas production for FS and KS1 and an end of year production for KS2 which everyone takes part in. These performances are always very well supported by parents and the local community.

In additional to curriculum music, we also provide the opportunity for children to access tuition for keyboard and guitar during the school day with peripatetic music teachers. Regular ‘celebration assemblies’, where they can perform their musical skills for an invited audience of parents and friends, are a fantastic showcase for each child’s developing musical talent.
