Listening to Parents

Parent Communication Policy

We are committed to engaging openly and constructively with our parents, and are keen to hear parents’ views on how we are doing and what we can do to improve the education we are providing for all our children. To this end, we have developed a Parent Communication policy which sets out the methods of communication available to parents for contacting the school and our expectations of parents, staff and pupils when engaging with the school.

OFSTED Parent View

As part of the recent OFSTED inspection, we were delighted that so many parents provided input to the ‘Parent View’ survey, which forms an important part of the inspector’s work and which has a bearing on their overall judgement.

In the OFSTED report, the inspectors noted that parents were positive about the opportunities given to their children to develop their skills.  ‘One parent, along with others, commented positively:  “The school is putting a lot of extra effort into clubs, such as coding”.  The report also noted the favourable views of parents about the opportunities given to children to develop their confidence and independence through school trips.

The full results of the parent view survey are available on the OFSTED parent view website. They are also provided here in PDF format.

Our 2022 Parent questionnaire

We were pleased to see that the favourable results maintained those that we had gathered earlier in the year, when completing our own parent questionnaire, which we undertook in March 2022. This contained many positive responses, with 93% of the total responses being positive – that is, either in strong agreement or agreement with the statements made. 93% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that their child is happy at school, and the same proportion made clear that their child had not experienced bullying.  100% of those parents who had raised concerns agreed or strongly agreed that their issues have been acknowledged and acted on quickly. For those respondents whose children have SEND, 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the school provides the support they need.

We value and appreciate this feedback, and in particular because parent opinion is a vital element in making sure we are addressing the right issues and responding to concerns in the most effective way.

Our approach will be to undertake parent questionnaires on a regular basis so that we can stay in tune with the views of our parent body.
